At first glance,“Valkyrie Connect,” might seem too similar to other mobile fantasy RPGs. After all, there is the catastrophic event that makes the player a hero. There is the “summon” system that allows the player to spend gems for a chance to gain new fighting units. There is even the optional auto-battle feature, found in hit games such as “Seven Knights.” However, "Valkyrie Connect" has a few key characteristics that make this game a solid recommendation for fantasy fans.

An impressive feature of "Valkyrie Connect" is that each character in the game has a unique backstory. The main storyline by itself may appear bland to some users; the player is accompanied by a Valkyrie named Skuld, in an attempt to prevent a calamity. There are some high points in the main story, but it follows the stereotypical idea of being the “chosen one.” It is the “hero quests,” that make this game truly shine.

In the hero quests, one can dive deeper into the story behind each of the units. One of the heroes, named Count Draculoki, was introduced especially for the Halloween season. In this particular narrative, Loki decides to dress up for Halloween, rename himself, and scare children in the human realm. If players take the time to read dialogue and follow the events of each character’s story, they will not be disappointed in the amount of thought and creativity put into them. Each character is different, in both appearance and personality.

Besides the story, “Valkyrie Connect’s” gameplay does well to incorporate interaction among players and an incentive to become stronger. Players have the option to progress through the mainline story, fight in the arena, or team up with players to play connect battles. Progressing through the regular quests can be repetitive, but the storyline scenes scattered throughout the stages cure some of the monotony. Stealing another player’s rank in the arena, or holding on to a high rank for a certain amount of time is an enjoyable experience and the game does well to reward skilled players.

The connect system is the highlight of this app’s gameplay. Three teams of heroes are put together to fight beasts. Because these beasts are difficult to defeat, those who play "Valkyrie Connect" will discover that it is absolutely necessary to work together. While many mobile games are unable to grasp the feeling of meaningful cooperation, "Valkyrie Connect" does this seamlessly.

"Valkyrie Connect" is friendly to those who want to play without spending any money. The F2P (free-to-play) community will be happy to find out that people who choose to spend on this game do not gain huge advantages. Gems, the premium currency, are given away generously. It is not difficult to obtain the stronger heroes, as there are many chances to obtain them through using these gems.

"Valkyrie Connect" suffers from repetitiveness in the main quests. On the other hand, participating in the arena and working together with others in connect battles will do well to prevent boredom. The hero quests separate this game from its competition, and it’s difficult to find such deep background and dialogue on every character in a mobile game.
